For our November meeting, we are really pleased to welcome a new speaker to the society, Dr. Steve Barrett from University of Liverpool, who will be giving us a talk titled 'Warping Space and Time'.

I'm really looking forward to meeting Dr. Barrett, as he is really big in the lecture circuit in England and Wales averaging over 20 talks a year! This promises to be an excellent lecture, and is just one of his many talks, this one is about the facts, and science fiction of black holes! I'm sure we will have a good turnout to this talk!

About Steve: Steve Barrett is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool. With long-standing interests in astronomy and photography, it is no surprise to find that many of the twenty or so outreach talks that he gives have an astronomical flavour. Check out his website here!

Please note: Under 16's are very welcome but due to our child protection policy, we ask that they are accompanied by an adult.

As always we will have refreshments available after the meeting, a donation bucket is available at the door if you wish to support us in our work!

Hope to see you all there!

October 2018 Meeting PDF Print E-mail

The second meeting of 2018/19 season will be on Monday 1st October, it starts at 8pm sharp in our usual venue of Ballyclare High School Lecture Theatre. Directions can be found here.

For our October meeting, we are really pleased to welcome a new speaker to the society, Professor Mihalis Mathioudakis from Queens University Belfast, who will be giving us a talk titled 'The Sun - Our Star'.

Athough new to us at the society, Prof. Mihalis has lived and worked in N.Ireland for many a year now. As the title of the talk gives it away, he will be telling us about his work researching the Sun. QUB is now one of the leaders in the astronomical world when it comes to research studies on the Sun and Mihalis has been involved in most of them. This promises to be an excellent lecture so I'm sure we will have a good turnout to this talk!

About Professor Mihalis Mathioudakis: Please follow this link to his page on the QUB website, you will see a lot of familiar names of speakers to the NIAAS over the years!

Please note: Under 16's are very welcome but due to our child protection policy, we ask that they are accompanied by an adult.

As always we will have refreshments available after the meeting, a donation bucket is available at the door if you wish to support us in our work!

Hope to see you all there!
