Dr. Brian EspeyWe are excited to have Dr.Brian Espey from Trinity College Dublin along as our guest speaker.

Dr. Espey will be presenting a talk entitled "3-D Astronomy" He will be bringing along specialised equipment to allow us to view astronomical images in 3-D from the Earth out through the Solar System to the stars and galaxies beyond. It should be an excellent evenings entertainment.

About Dr.Brian Espey:

 

Brian did his undergraduate studies in experimental physics at Trinity College Dublin and graduated in 1983, before working for the Science & Engineering Research Council in laser physics at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. After two years there, he went to Cambridge to undertake a PhD in quasar spectroscopy at the Institute of Astronomy, then spend a year working at Leiden, Holland. In 1990, Brian moved to Pittsburgh, USA to work as a member in a team for one of the Key Projects of the Hubble Space Telescope, then in 1994 he moved to Baltimore MD to participate in the Astro-2 Shuttle Astronomy mission, before becoming an ESA Assistant Astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute in 1998. In 2001 Brian returned to his alma mater to develop the astronomy programme there, and is now a Senior Lecturer in the School of Physics as well as a Research Associate of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies

 

Brian's interests currently centre on the study of the outer envelopes of red giant stars, light pollution, and also quasar spectroscopy.
