A beautiful image taken by James Adamson which is probably the first image taken from Ireland this year showing the “blue haze” that has developed at Mars’s North Pole. As it is winter at the pole, it is assumed that this haze is ice related, probably thin clouds formed of ice crystals. This is a beautiful example of what you can get with a good steady atmosphere (good seeing!). T.Ikemura’s simulation for the date and time is shown at left, and gives an example of the superb detail James has managed to secure.
